SHAPING UP Pueblo Chieftain
Have you heard? Pueblo is moving.
Step by step, rep by rep, there's fitness afoot.
Let's face it, Pueblo's reputation is not that of a health mecca. Quite the opposite, in fact. We are, according to studies and statistics, a sedentary, health-challenged city. We eat junk food while we channel surf; we resemble the "Twilight" vampires due to a lack of face time with Mother Nature.
That picture is accurate . . . to an extent. Yes, our city has a too-high rate of diabetes and other diseases that can be improved by regular exercise and lifestyle changes. It's likely we'll never compete with places like Boulder when it comes to the overall fitness level of our population.
But there's another Pueblo — one that is active and health-oriented. That attitude is not a new development, either.
One of the most well-established examples is Southern Colorado Runners, a 30-year-old organization.
The group is involved with a long list of local and regional races each year and members volunteer their time to help with many other races that aren't associated with the club. SCR also puts out a monthly newsletter and maintains a Web site, www.socorunners.org .
(ARA) - Whether by the pool, in the park, or on vacation, warm weather ushers in a season of constant activity. Keeping the family energized during the summer months is important. These easy steps will help make wholesome summertime snacking simple and interesting, no matter the time or place.
