Colts Neck school district switches medical carrier News Transcript
COLTS NECK — In the midst of making cuts to the 2010-11 school year budget, the Colts Neck K-8 School District Board of Education gave its approval to a change in insurance carriers for employees of the school district.
Gary Goldfarb of LDP Consulting addressed the board, district employees and members of the public during the board’s May 20 meeting. He said the current insurance carrier proposed an increase in the district’s premium that was deemed to be too much to absorb.
The Colts Neck K-8 School District currently has Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield as its insurance carrier. Goldfarb said Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield came in with a 28.8 percent increase in the cost to renew the district’s health care plan for the 2010-11 school year.
Insurance carrier AmeriHealth offered a quote that included a 15 percent premium increase over the cost of the district’s current plan. While that amount was still an increase, Goldfarb said it was the lowest quote that provided equal or better coverage than what is currently provided to the school district’s employees.
